Don’t miss Dan Flavin’s fluorescent lights installations at the David Zwirner Gallery until December 19th.
Flavin (1933-1996) was born in Queens, New York, for more than three decades the artist radically limited his materials to commercially available fluorescent tubing in standard sizes, shapes and colors, extracting banal hardware from its utilitarian context and inserting it into the world of high art. Most of Flavin’s works are untitled, followed by a dedication in parenthesis to friends, artists and critics. His works are owned by numerous museums and institutions worldwide, including the Guggenheim Museum and Dia Art Foundation. AG
